VMAs Suck, World Unanimously Agrees With Me

A few things:

1. Were the VMAs held in someone’s basement this year??? Why does the stage set up look so bizarre and small? It looked like there were about 12 people in the audience.

2. What the H was Demi Moore doing presenting an award? Anyone else find that choice a bit off?

3. Jonah Hill and Britney Spears had a cute a little skit, but it was just that- little. I wanted more! Best line: I call this one ’sweet peasant of Nazareth.’

4. I love Rihanna but that performance of ‘Disturbia’ was sub-par at best (I know, I know, it kills me to say it but it’s true- her voice was not even mildly good). Felt like a bad version of ‘Thriller.’

5. Was there no rehearsal whatsoever? Anyone that walked on stage looked bewildered, confused, and embarrassed. A lot of blank stares and sheepish grins.

6. Russell Brand’s political rant had no place being incorporated into his hosting duties. This isn’t ‘Meet the Press.’ I love the political passion but this just wasn’t the right venue.

7. Lil Wayne may be crazy successful and talented but he simply HAS to pull up his pants. I can’t take it!!!

8. Naturally, I was sorely disappointed that the Twilight cast did NOT make a very effective appearance (due in most part to Russell Brand taking over the stage, and more awkwardness ensuing from standing in a narrow aisle). You know my obsession…I probably wouldn’t be happy unless they hosted the show, performed with the bands, posed for photos, and got interviewed for three hours straight. Ah to be a nerd…

9. Kinda sad that most musical performances took place out of the arena in back lot studios, bars across the street, movie sets, etc. Just didn’t feel right nor make a ton of sense- took a lot of adrenaline out of the room.

10. I was reminded about 500 times why I don’t like watching MTV- their tv shows are HORRIBLE. Don’t we all agree that we don’t need ANOTHER Real World/Road Rules ultimate challenge complete with booze consumption, drama, and rampant hook ups?! I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!

A few pros: Pink’s performance, as well as The Ting Tings and Christina Aguilera, ROCKED. After an hour of hosting, Russell Brand became randomly humorous. Oh, and the dance crews battling in the pre-show were fantastic. That’s about it.

***UPDATE: Rihanna redeemed herself when she performed with TI. LOVE the new song!

I Heart Aldous Snow, Pretty Much All Fictional Rockstars

I ADORE Russell Brand (who is hosting the VMA’s as I blog)!!!

He was HILARIOUS as Aldous Snow, the British rockstar (of the band Infant Sorrow) in the movie, Forgetting Sarah Marshall (my sister gets all the credit for forcing me to see the flick- she raved about it).

Here’s a great clip featuring some quality Aldous:

I’m A Real Estate Rockstar, Feels Pretty Good

I cannot even believe the amount of work that I accomplished at the office today- it is blowing my mind even right now (moment of silence, please).

Deep breath. Big smile!

Thankfully, all of my professional obligations have been attended to, and I’m getting ready to head on out of town…..ahhhh, I am soooo ready for the weekend! After the high tension in the office today, I’m game for some low-maintenance fun (typically provoked with beverages and large groups of girlfriends).

Enjoy your weekend as well, and thanks for checking in to my ethereal spot today. Oh, and remember to check out MTV’s Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Sunday so you can see the Twilight cast present!

Peace out

***UPDATE: My sister just notified me of this- you have to check it out! Apparently TMZ caught up with Robert Pattinson- yikes!!! Naturally, I would put my vacation on hold for five minutes for something Twilight-related…stop snickering!!!

Welcome To My Vampire World

SO this morning, my roommate April asks me if I have all the Twilight books and if I would be cool with letting her borrow them, because she wants to read the books before the movie comes out. I sighed, knowing what lay ahead.

It’s over- she’s a goner. The obsession will soon begin to take over (insert crazy laughter and creepy music).

You see, April has kind of a laid back weekend ahead of her- those who have read the Twilight series know what I am talking about. It’s starts off as ‘just a little vampire book’ you’re checking out because EVERYONE you know won’t stop raving about it or obsessing over it (you actually roll your eyes frequently thinking of how nerd-like all of these people have become). The next thing you know, you’re Googling Forks, furiously reading the sequential books in the series until the wee morning hours, and wondering how your own significant other measures up to that of Edward Cullen.

Don’t fight it, April, just go with it (ah, peer pressure at its best!). Welcome to my coven (you will soon know what this means) and my vampire world. You will officially be a nerd by the time I get back from Wisconsin.

Happy reading!!!

WARNING: If you have not read any of the Twilight series, do NOT click on the hyperlinks within this post, as they contain spoilers pertaining to the content and premises of the books and movie.

Quote of the Day

“What the…your shoes look like…Christmas wrapping paper” (my co-worker)

“Wow…thanks…I think” (me)

Don’t you just love the half compliment/half insult remarks?! They can go either way, and it all really depends on the tone. Somehow, I have a feeling this wasn’t exactly meant in the most flattering way. And that just makes me laugh!

I couldn’t find an exact photo, but this shoe below is near identical to what I’m wearing with jeans today (it IS casual Friday after all).

I think I speak for all us when I say that these shoes are amazing. :)

Weekend in Wisconsin, Shennanigans To Ensue

I am lucid

Just Right

Just Right

These photos were taken while we were up in Minocqua, WI last summer. Fitz’s fam has a fantastic cabin up in the north woods. You can tell that we’re in the ‘lake house’ mindset in this photo as Fitz wasn’t shaving, I wasn’t wearing any makeup, and apparently, neither of us were capable of operating a digital camera.

So what’s the occasion for this post? This weekend, I’m heading up to Westfield, Wisconsin with all of my girlfriends- like what happens in Mincoqua, I can only imagine the adventures, chicanery, and memories that await.

Keep in mind that my blog will be light until my return on Sunday- whereby I will be glued to the MTV Music Awards because the Twilight cast will be presenting (yes, the obsession is alive and well, I’m still a full-fledged nerd). Just because I go on vacation, doesn’t mean I forget who I am or what my nerd-like tendencies are! :)

Soothing...right?!

Forget Sarah Palin! I’ve got 15,000 hits!

Let’s let go of political obsessions for a moment- today is very, very, VERY cool.

My blog has reached a fantastic milestone….15,000 total hits!

The ecstatic feelings of bliss are coursing through my veins and radiating out through my limbs. Thank you to all who stop by and continue to check in- I feel wrapped in warmth today (which is key because it’s a randomly chilly day in Chicago).

Overheard while watching the Republican National Convention

Right...

Right...

(Imagine hysterical laughter…like that of a hyena)

“You’re not going to believe this- this is RICH! They dressed up Bristol Palin’s boyfriend to look like a mini presidential candidate- suit with tie and jacket…AND an American flag pin! Did I mention they cut off his mini-mullet and forced him to shave??? I have a feeling he’s going to be enjoying the possibility of a trip to the White House.”

“So what you’re saying is…should the McCain/Palin ticket come to a fruition…this Levi Johnston would be considered…First Bro.”

“Well…I can’t think of a more appropriate title.”

Unrelated but related:

“What the H was Cindy McCain wearing last night? Flourescent green is BACK???!!! Oh, the horror!”

As 15,000 Hits Slowly Approach…Joy Erupts From Within

I don’t know why some things work and some things do not. Or how things should be versus how they shouldn’t. And I don’t always know why I feel the way that I feel…I just know that I truly feel it in my heart. And that makes everything just as it should be.

What happens here is just that- everything unfolds and blossoms, without inhibition or pretense, and evolves toward its meaningful purpose. I don’t know why that is, but whenever I am here…in this world…my heart sings with happiness.

Forks beckons me, yet I remain in humid Chicago

Fitz flew out to Seattle early this morning for another biz trip, and once again, I’m mad jealous that I can’t go. ESPECIALLY because last night, when I mentioned that we HAVE to go to Bella Italia in Port Angeles, Fitz says, “Oh yeah…Port Angeles…I’ve been there too” (FYI, Bella Italia is an Italian restaurant featured in a pivotal scene within Twilight; strangely enough, NO mushroom ravioli on the menu).

We are trying to assemble some plans for me to tag along on one of these biz trips so that I can run around photographing and shrieking over everything like a huge nerd, while Fitz is closing up his deals.

Stephenie Meyer posted some info on her blog regarding her trip out to Forks, all photos and info can be found here. AND…the city of Forks has finally given in to the overwhelming attention and put up a website featuring Twilight Points of Interest within Forks (noting areas like the hospital where Carlisle works, the dress store Bella visits to help her friends dress shop, the grocery store, etc). Fascinating stuff- you know I love this shizz.

Travel safe, Fitz, and come home soon! :)

You know you love it

WTF: New Twilight Movie Photos Have Me Pouting

So I came across photos that appear to be taken recently, pertaining to the Twilight movie re-shoots…and all I have to say is…COMO WHAT???? (translation: what WHAT?!!)

Pictured below are the characters of Emmett (Kellan Lutz) and Rosalie (Nikki Reed). Pictured below them is Edward Cullen (Rob Pattinson). I mean…what the H is going on here?!! I don’t recall ANY scene from the books that would necessitate such…historical costumes reminiscent of a 1920’s equestrian championship. Something here just doesn’t seem right! Am I overreacting?

These re-shoots better be amazing because I am skeptical about these outfits, even though I know they likely pertain to the back stories of the Cullens. In case you didn’t notice, I am obscenely protective of this movie…in a society where the movie never lives up to the book (DaVinci Code, The Firm, The Fugitive, The Notebook), my nerves are on a live wire when it comes to re-creating a fantasy vampire world that I just so happen to be obsessed with.

However, I have trust in Catherine Hardwicke (director, Twilight movie), because she seems to be one of those insanely brilliant, creative visionaries…who also might be a little insane as well. I like that combo.

How Awesome Is This?!!!!

So there is a new employee that started in my office about a month ago. We have been introduced, conversed quite a bit, worked on some projects together, etc. No big thing.

So imagine my surprise when my assistant Emma came to me last Friday and said that this employee has been referring to her by my name. Yes, this employee has called Emma ‘Kelly,’ on more than one occasion.

I asked Emma if she had corrected our co-worker, and she sort of smiled sheepishly and said, “Well…no.”
We both busted out laughing and decided we would see how long it takes for her to figure it out. It reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld- the one where Elaine’s co-worker calls her Suzie, all the while complaining about ‘Elaine.’ I’m nearly doubled over with laughter just thinking about it. :)

I figure it’s harmless fun, right?!

P.S. At my previous place of employment, I accidentally called a fellow employee ‘Jason’ for about two months before I figured out his name was actually Sean. Oops!

Twilight Trailer Spoof #2: Still LMAO

Found another hilarious Twilight movie spoof on YouTube from dacrazy1012

Nearly fell off the couch in a fit of giggles…

WARNING: The link and text below contains spoilers to Breaking Dawn.

Stephenie Meyer answered some interesting questions regarding the fourth and final book in the Twilight Series. It’s fascinating to hear her thoughts on the reader responses, as well as understand how she crafted this vampire universe. What is most intriguing about her thoughts is the fact that I now realize how incredibly difficult it must be to stay true to your vision as an author, while at the same time pleasing your fan base.

Even I have to admit that when I first read Breaking Dawn, I was furious. I felt that Meyer had taken a beautifully written, suspenseful love story, and turned it into something completely different, with characters and actions I couldn’t recognize or empathize with. I was upset as I felt that she ventured away from what drew me in to begin with. It wasn’t until I took a break from my thoughts and re-read some parts of the book, that I realized what she had created. And I loved it. It was joyous and remarkable….and it was growth (something I think a lot of Twilight fans forget about- characters, personalities, minds, and emotions evolve over time).

Anyway, the article is a good read and Meyer also addresses the pros and cons of a possible Breaking Dawn film.

The 17-year-old daughter of Veep candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant…and apparently engaged to the ‘young father.’

This news gives me the chills. As a 27-year-old woman, I know that I’m entirely not ready to have a child right now…to think of having that kind of responsibility at 17 is MIND BOGGLING. At 17, I struggled with figuring out how to do my laundry (and even now I’m still unclear as to how fabric softener works or if it’s even a necessity, but that’s besides the point). The notion of being responsible for a child’s life while still being a child yourself is simply unfathomable.
The fact that this young girl will have to be in the political spotlight during her pregnancy, for all the world to scrutinize, makes me sad as well. I wish her and her family all the best; this cannot be the easiest situation for them right now.

Wow. Wow. Wow. It is sooo very important to talk to kids about birth control.
