Only 12 shopping days left…

Yeah, that’s right. My birthday is just around the corner. Get out your credit cards and calendars because on May 17th I’ll be 27!

Seriously, stop laughing. Yes, I really am that old. I know that I don’t act like it, and I don’t look like it (it’s all about the eye cream people) but it’s true. As you get older in life, people tend to ask you for advice- usually because with age comes wisdom.

Some of the best advice I can give is blatantly stolen from Ferris Bueller- “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in awhile, you could miss it.” The message is simple and true- ENJOY your life and celebrate it.

The thing is, I do not feel old and I’m not one bit upset about turning 27. I welcome it, it’s a beautiful thing. But there is something startling when you look back upon your childhood…and where you wanted to be at a certain age or where you though you would be. I’m just SHOCKED at how fast time has flown by- I mean twenty-seven years of my life have gone by in a blink!!! BUT I love where I am at with my life.

Five years ago, I graduated from college (I actually graduated ON my 22nd birthday and was SO hungover). Next year, I will be attending my 10-yr high school reunion (scream!). And in three years (gulp) I’ll be…thirty. Wow.

So today was one of those days that was utilized to really enjoy life- Fitz and I watched some NBA games, took in a little golf (where we admired the wonder that is Anthony Kim), and then ventured out for a walk around the city (Chicago, that is). We toured a $1.3 million dollar condo just for fun (they had an open house and we didn’t have an agenda), visited a dog park (sans dog, just commented on cute ones), and then we walked through Grant Park, down LSD (the drive, not the drug), and ventured around the beautiful walkway surrounding the Shedd Aquarium. There was sun on our faces, wind in our hair, boats on the lake, and the aroma of spring (tulips, barbeque grills, and wet dogs) wafting around. For awhile we just lay in the grass taking it all in.

After talking about our favorite ice cream flavors as kids (mint chocolate chip, gold medal ribbon, rainbow sherbert, cookie dough, mint oreo), our appetites got the best of us and we grabbed a pint of cookies-n-cream at Baskin Robbins, watched the Cubs game at a bar, and called it a day. It was fantastic!

I wish for all of you to take a day this month (as May is a BEAUTIFUL month) and just enjoy yourself and your surroundings.

“I am not going to sit on my ass as the events that affect me unfold to determine the course of my life. I’m going to take a stand. I’m going to defend it. Right or wrong, I’m going to defend it” (Cameron, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) .

Much love,

KQH

It was indeed a great day yesterday!
A time to enjoy the little things that matter.
And while Ferris often gives sage advice, I am partial to another wise man who once said, “You shouldn’t take life to seriously. You’ll never get out alive.”

PS: you forgot to mention the portobello sausages we made for lunch.

So, have you caught yourself saying, “I remember, oh, about 20 years ago…” It’s an eye-opener, that one.
