Yesterday my beloved Iowa Hawkeyes pulled out a win in their season opener against Maine. Yes, I realize they played MAINE, but it’s a win nonetheless. If you had seen the way my Hawks have broken my heart and spirit over the years, you’d throw a parade over a trivial win as well!
My senior year in college (2003), the Hawks went to the Orange Bowl…and so did I! It was amazing. I would love love LOVE for them to go to a sweet bowl game this year- for some reason, whenever we are predicted to do well, we flop. And whenever we fly under the radar (and un-ranked), we seem to come out of nowhere to clench victory.
Here’s hoping for a successful season for the Hawkeyes, and all of the Big Ten teams (except Ohio State).

PLEASE PRAY FOR CUBA AND NEW ORLEANS!!! MSNBC is reporting that it is possible for Hurricane Gustav to reach category 5 status (most dangerous level). This is horrifying for all us- to see this storm unfold brings back horrible memories of Hurricane Katrina.
Given the fact that many Twilight fans have fallen into depression regarding the Internet leak and postponement of Midnight Sun, perhaps this will cheer some of you up…
Entertainment Weekly has a great scoop on what scenes will be re-shot for the Twilight film. This kind of makes me excited because I think everyone is working extremely hard to make this movie successful and accurate to Stephenie Meyer’s vision- no detail shall be left undiscussed!
On a side note…anyone else getting excited for Halloween???

Last night, Fitz and I joined our pals Kyle and Stef for an awesome time at the Improv Olympic in Wrigleyville. The show is nothing short of impressive and entertaining- the talent of these comedians will blow your mind!
Tons of very famous performers have graced this stage- Mike Myers, Amy Poelher, Rachel Dratch, etc.
After the show (around midnight) there’s a bonus: all of the intoxicated folks that wander in and out of bars on Clark Street. The people watching is A-MAZ-ING!!!
I wrote up a loooong post about this, only to have my blog undergo server maintenance…and I lost it all (oh joy). It’s actually a good thing that my whole theory post was thrown out the window- it was too accusatory and had I published it, I for sure would have gotten some unfriendly messages and that is not the point of this blog or this post. In other words, I’m here to stir the pot, not light dinner on fire and burn down the kitchen. Besides, I already tried that once as a kid…
So here is the gist: Stephenie Meyer disclosed that her leaked manuscript of Midnight Sun was given to ‘trusted individuals in good purpose.’ But somehow…the first 12 chapters were published on the Internet.
Hmmm…my initial thought leads me to believe that her editor, publisher, publicist, or family members could be grouped into this ‘trusted individuals’ category. But then again, this is Meyer’s fifth book in the Twilight Series…these people have been through the rigors of secret keeping when it comes to publishing her work. They also all stand to gain should secrets be kept and integrity upheld.
So where does that leave us? I recall reading something about how Meyer lent her manuscript of Midnight Sun to those involved with the Twilight film…for reference, inspiration, and an overall peak into the world of vampires. Any chance this generosity could correlate to this Internet leak? There are HUNDREDS of people on a movie set- extras, cast, crew, press, fans, catering, etc. This movie is also independent of Meyer’s financial gain- they are in this to make a great film and bring a great book to life…but don’t kid yourself- at the end of the day, those involved with this movie are looking to turn a profit. A heftyprofit. Publicity can be awfully alluring in the movie making business.
On Monday night, I had dinner with my dad, and we were discussing the presidential candidates. We were talking about potential vice-president appointments and my dad piped in with “You know what would be the smartest move for McCain right now?”
I bit my lower lip in thought…and after a few seconds it dawned on me- if McCain chose a female running mate, it could change the presidential race completely.
My dad nodded in agreement. I can’t believe this notion didn’t come to me sooner!
Fast forward to present day…and we have Sarah Palin. This country will either have an African-American president or a female vice-president. History in the making, my friends…
So much to consider, so much to research. This is truly going to be something remarkable to watch in the coming months!
Stephenie Meyer posted this beautifully written entry on her blog regarding the recent internet leak of Midnight Sun. We have our answer- the leaked chapters of Midnight Sun are very real and very much Stephenie’s. I think all fans of the Twilight series can agree that her words, reaction, and emotions resonate deeply. I’m so very sad to see that the publishing of Midnight Sun is on hold indefinitely.
As a fellow writer, I can’t imagine her feelings right now- she is hurt, knowing that someone she deemed trustworthy with her most delicate words and ideas is no longer considered so. She began writing this book as nothing more than fun, and it escalated into something she wanted to give all of us- a gift of her creativity, a winding glimpse into her fantastical underworld of vampire lore. She doesn’t judge her fans who wish to read…nor does she judge the person who betrayed her work. She merely expresses deep sadness and remorse for what she worked so hard for…for what could have been. Alas…it is no more…it may never reach it’s full potential.
And we all sit with heavy hearts and wounded thoughts.

Given my preferences for celebratory actions (dancing, embarrassment, screaming, painting, the usual)…my only dilemma is how do I commemorate this amazing feat???!! The possibilities are endless!

Last night Fitz and I watched Top Gun, and not surprisingly, it reminded me how insanely awesome it would be to fly planes as a fighter pilot. Which got me thinking…what would my call sign be? Tom Cruise was Maverick, Anthony Edwards was Goose, and Val Kilmer was Iceman (’cause he flies ice cold, no mistakes’). All call signs were very fitting and appropriate.
So I came up with this list:
1. Quinn
2. Q (thought I’m not sure if a one-letter call sign is allowed??)
3. Hales (a nickname that’s only been around about 6 years, but it’s a classic)
4. Miss (a nickname that has no specific origination, my parents have called me this forever)
5. Dancer (it’s just what I am)
6. Writer (also what I am)
7. Boss (what I always have been)

I am still in shock that NO STATEMENT has been made regarding the leak of chapters 1-12 of Midnight Sun. I have checked Stephenie Meyer’s website, and well as the Twilight Lexicon, and no one has mentioned ANYTHING about this! Why is everyone ignoring the obvious?!
This is unprecedented, as Meyer herself has expressed remorse over Internet leaks from her previous books. Yet…all of us continue to wait…in silence, wondering how factual all of this really is. One thing is for sure- Twilight fans are losing their minds with excitement and this is one of the most buzzed about topics on the Internet.

Little known fact: Fitz is doing a development deal in Washington (about 2 hours from Forks) and travels there frequently. Unfairly enough, he has driven through Forks and says the area is beautiful.

On a side note, I think I am single-handedly going to attempt to bring back blue mascara….actually violet mascara. The makeup artist at Bobbi Brown used it on me last Friday when I attended a fashion show, and I fell in love with it. It’s YSL Everlong Mascara. Makes me feel like a rock star!!!
I also figure that if Justin Timberlake can bring sexy back, and if the CW can bring Beverly Hills 90210 back, I can handle bringing violet mascara into the mainstream.
I cannot believe how fast my blog is approaching 10,000 hits. This is downright insane, people!!! What shall I do when this occurs? In the past, I’ve always marked such milestones with silly dance moves that typically embarrass myself in a public arena. I’ve also considered throwing parades and having celebratory paintings commissioned. But 10,000 hits tells me I should think bigger…like intergalactic domination!!! Muhahahaaaaaaaaa (insert creepy and disturbing laughter here)…
***UPDATE: To add to the utter coolness that I’m feeling right now, I just learned that my blog is #46 on the top 100 fastest growing blogs here on WordPress. Also my Midnight Sun post has resonated with many, resulting in the #64 top post yesterday.If I could high five myself right now…I would (for those who are actually attempting this, to high five yourself is called clapping).
My blog has had remarkable attention this month and it is sooo very appreciated- 9,000 total hits! What an insane blessing it is to document my life and thoughts and have others respond to it. I still feel like I have so much more to say, do, and give…I can’t believe I’m just getting started and I’m already in this deep. It feels beyond exhilarating and sweet.
THANK YOU…to all of those who read this daily, weekly, month, whenever. To those whom I do not even know, but who have found something here that they like, and keep coming back to it. To all those who write, releasing a part of themselves for all to judge, and still do it anyway because it’s just what they were born to do.

After rocking out all morning on the el to ‘Untouched’ by The Veronicas, I find myself wondering, “Where have I been all this time? Am I the last person on earth to finally check this band out?”
I love loud mouthed rock n’ roll chicks! P!nk and Gwen Stefani are my favorites. So it would seem only natural that I would go crazy for a band like The Veronicas.
Sure I had heard of them before. But being a commuter via train, I am never in my car to listen to the radio and hear new songs. I also don’t watch MTV or VH1 (though I hear music videos are long gone from these channels so it’s practically a moot point). So last night, I decided to contributed some new songs to my iPod.
Here’s what I added:
