Guess where I will be tonight?
August 22, 2008A poignant suggestion from my mother
August 22, 2008I spoke with my mom the other day, and we were just chatting about the usual- tropical storms, wedding, Chicago, etc. She knows that I adore living in the city and that I have expressed such passion for living in Chicago, that I proclaimed that I would be buried here (a statement both dramatic and premature).
So then my mom says, “Well, would you want your final resting place to be in one spot or all over the city?”
“Hmmm…I don’t know, ” I answered pensively, “Perhaps scatter my ashes in Lake Michigan as a final gesture of devotion?”
“Oh, I know! You should scatter your ashes up and down Michigan Avenue. That way, in your afterlife, people will carry you in and out of your favorite stores,” she responded happily.
BRILLIANT!!!
Struggling with my nerd conversion
August 22, 2008“Where did all of this insanity come from?!”
Just recently Fitz held a mock intervention, wondering where all of my recent and surprising nerd-like qualities originated from. I think it was the combination of my vampire fixation, skull necklaces, starting a club with my co-workers regarding centaurs, and showing up to book stores at midnight. The signs were everywhere…
Back to my point- here is where it all originates. Yes, I am very much a girl’s girl. I love the whole deal with makeup, shoes, handbags, fashion, nailpolish, jewelry, etc. BUT…if you know me well, then you are aware that I spend the entire year looking forward to Halloween- my all time favorite holiday. I love dressing up in costume, watching horror movies, and reading scary books. I make a special ’spook-tacular’ dinner for Fitz and drink wine out of skull chalices (not kidding, April can attest to this, they sit right next to her margarita glasses in our kitchen).
Perhaps I have surpressed this part of my personality for awhile because I haven’t taken interest in anything strong enough to foster a full-on infatuation…until the Twilight series, that is. These books combine all that I love- a scary, suspense-filled story with a love triangle twist, all from the perspective of a girl.
I am well aware that I used to be a normal person until these books let loose my inner-nerd, now exposed for all the world to see. I find myself wondering if I should go to Comic-Con next year, or if I need to take up a vision problem and get glasses. The nerd possibilities are endless, and I’m embracing them all.
(chanting) NERDS! NERDS! NERDS!

My new friends
I heart comments, Piccolo Sogno
August 22, 2008I am beyond thrilled whenever I get comments on this blog- it’s great to hear your reactions and opinions in response to my reactions and opinions. Keep those comments coming!
Last night I went to dinner at Piccolo Sogno (tri-section of Halsted, Milwaukee, and Grand) with the cousin crew, and Fitz made a late night cameo fresh off an airplane from Seattle. The food and chianti were delicious, and the company couldn’t have been better! Piccolo has one of the most beautiful alfresco gardens I have ever seen- the ambiance is simply breathtaking as the sun quietly set and the sky darkened up. Luckily for us, the weather cooperated with our plans (we were due for storms but they never showed!). It was an ethereal experience for all.
We had an antipasti appetizer platter, a margherita pizza, and some fried calamari as starters and all were fantastic (calamari was the standout for me). I chose the ravioli di piccolo sogno (four cheese with pine nuts and marsala sauce) as my entree and it was amazing light and delicious. I LOVE Italian food, but I don’t love walking away from the dinner table feeling 10 lbs heavier due to massive portion overload. Fortunately, this wasn’t the case- portions were perfect due to the traditional Italian eatery set up.
I can’t wait to go back- and the best part of all is that I only live a quick 7 minute walk away!
